Superhuman AI is coming. No one voted for it.
The biggest AI companies say openly that they're trying to build "superintelligence," meaning AI that beats humans at almost everything. They're spending hundreds of billions on data centers to get there first. Some of the people building it have signed public warnings that it could go badly wrong. The public never got a say.
To the leaders of OpenAI, Google DeepMind, Anthropic, Meta, and xAI:
You've said this technology could be dangerous. Act like it. We call on you to:
- Stop building AI more powerful than today's systems until independent experts can show it's safe and under human control
- Open your most powerful models to outside safety testing before release, and publish the results
- Commit to pause training if tests find dangerous abilities you can't control
- Publish your plan for what happens if a system gets out of your control
